Ian Turnbull started his marine career working at Ovington Boats in 2000. For 5 years Ian was the mast-maker and rigger at Ovington’s where he worked on 29ers, 49ers Musto skiffs, 18 foot skiffs and Mumm 30s. Ian produced the masts for the 3 medal-winning 49ers in the 2004 Olympics. Ian was also involved in dinghy fit-outs and repairs at the company.
After Ovington’s, Ian completed a degree in Yacht Manufacturing and Surveying at Southampton Solent University. During this time, Ian set up BOVBOATS.co.uk, the fore-runner of Ian Turnbull Marine. This started out as a small online chandlery specializing in tapered sheets for the Musto skiff but progressed to complete fit-outs of International 14s.
Ian has also fitted-out Flying 15s and has performed race preparation and maintenance work on TP 52s.
Ian has had a hugely successful sailing career and has been at the top of the fleet in a wide range of High Performance boats. For example,
International 14 - 4th Nationals 2006, 15th Worlds 2006 Musto Skiff - 2nd Nationals 2003, 2nd Worlds 2004 & 2007 18ft skiff - 1st Europeans 2008, 1st European grand prix 2005
